Runners Dysfunction

‘TRUE’ RUNNERS WORLD – ED. 5

Recently, we received an email from a runner who was training for her 2nd marathon. But things weren’t going so well.

Specifically, she wanted to talk about her latest outing.

¬¬Things started off pretty well but the last 10 (miles) was what she described as a “death march.”

She confessed how she totally “lost it” and was very disappointed with her time because she knew it was terrible, without even looking at it.

She just knew it would be too much for her to handle.

Immediately, she convinced herself to start, what she called an unorthodox training plan of cross training, long runs, and short speed intervals. But she struggled badly, especially with those long runs.

What she went on to say was even more telling –

*****The Real Runner Scheme*****
What if what you’ve heard about Real Runners is just wrong? Would you keep being brainwashed, doing the same things and getting the same results? Or would you try something new and radically different? To stop the madness, GO HERE before this special report is removed.

She said “I’m going crazy. I’ve driven my husband and friends nuts with my obsessing. They don’t have any good answers anyhow. So, I’ve joined these running groups online but so much advice is coming at me that it gets frustrating.”

So, she swore she would never run a marathon and stick to the half. That’s her answer. Just throw in the towel.

Notice anything here? I did…

For one, she decided to quickly jump into this ‘unorthodox’ training program.  It’s probably safe to assume that idea wasn’t well thought out.

Focusing on the ‘right’ things would have probably lead her to other alternatives.

Also, did you take note of the affects on her family and friends?. She’s going “crazy” (her own words)…she’s joining these running groups and suffering from advice overload.

Sometimes, runner’s can get so anxious that they totally miss exactly where behavior fits in the entire process. It becomes all about the physical.

After all, there’s only so many hours in our day, right? We do have lives and we need those answers NOW.

But remember…it’s up to you. There’s nothing ‘etched in stone’ that says you have to keep doing the same things, or going through the same hell.

There’s also nothing you can’t do if you’re determined to do it.

Change your focus.

Switch up your target points.

You have to fight the urge to repeat the mundane. It’s your ability to recognize and reroute. The true runner understands this. Where are you? Where do you want to be and…

What are you willing to do?
